Lost In Space
- This is the oldest Swound! song of all time and was written in 2001. It has been played live ever since our first gig. The idea was to have a song that ended like a Shellac song. We were never going to be capable of doing that.
- The verses have been shortened significantly since early versions.
- This song contains only three chords. 60% of the song is played using the B flat power chord.
- The lyrics are about being mad and finding that it’s actually quite good fun. Tom wrote a lot of them after seeing a really happy group of insane people sitting in Burger King together wearing the little paper crowns. They were staring at the patterns on the wall and nodding along to the crazy music. Anyone who knows the Burger King near Victoria Centre in Nottingham may have seen them. One sometimes wears a rubber Elvis wig and another always carries a metal suitcase that looks really important, but obviously isn’t. Joe wrote the remainder of the words and they don’t make sense.
- The spoken word vocals towards the end of the song were recorded by the album’s producer, Paul Tipler. He read an excerpt from the zombie book ‘World War Z’ by Max Brooks. Tom was reading this in the studio at the time and it was the first thing that was came to hand when deciding to record this part. It included something or other about “heads popping like fucking champagne corks”
